DEHAP’s former provincial chief arrested
The gendarmerie arrested Tekin on suspicion of having insulted Ataturk and the principles of the republic six times in the village of Tilhasan. Tekin was put on trial in the town and detained in Midyat.
DEHAP’s Batman current provincial head lawyer Mehdi Oztuzun claimed that this was a planned act aimed at disrupting the atmosphere of peace and brotherhood that prevailed in Turkey and in the region.
"Some forces do not want the SHP to take part in the local elections. Mr. Tekin, who is on the party’s election campaign commission, was legally conducting his campaign. However, a gendarme and a member of a provincial council from the National Movement Party [MHP] together with the head of the village guards were recording everything on camera. I don’t believe he insulted Ataturk or the republic," stated Oztuzun.
