Cyprus summit results in support to Annan

The statement stressed, "Turkey and the TRNC have agreed to expend joint efforts to assist and support works to be carried out by United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan."

Noting that the summit was held with the participation of President Rauf Denktas of TRNC, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat of TRNC, Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktas of TRNC, and Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul, the statement noted that the participants exchanged views over the latest developments on the Cyprus issue.

During the summit, Prime Minister Erdogan informed President Denktas and TRNC government officials on his meetings with United Nations Secretary General Annan in Davos, and with U.S. President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of State Colin Powell in Washington D.C.

"Joint target of Turkey and the TRNC to reach a fair and lasting peace in Cyprus was re-affirmed at the summit. Turkey and the TRNC have agreed to expend joint efforts to assist and support works to be carried out by United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan. Turkey and the TRNC will continue to act in co-operation in the coming period."
