Cukurova fulfills 50% of Turkey’s rose demand in the fall

Even though spring is the most productive and flowering season, many flowers also grow in autumn. The most common flower in the fall is the rose, which is primarily grown in Mersin and the surrounding region. Rose is followed by gladioli, gerbera, lilies, and casa blanca (oriental lily). In addition to these flowers, many other flowers that thrive in other seasons also continue to grow in the fall.

Mustafa Kemal Kaya, Vice President of the Mersin Chamber of Florists, Tradesmen, and Craftsmen, spoke about flower production in Mersin. “At least 50% of Turkey’s rose demand is currently met by roses grown in the Cukurova region,” Kaya said, adding that roses are the most harvested flower in the fall in Mersin.

“Mersin grows the most roses in Turkey throughout the fall season. From Yenice to Erdemli, we are still harvesting fall flowers. Likewise, there are plenty of gladioli in the fall. The majority of the harvested products are sent to Antalya, Istanbul, and Yalova, where the demand is quite high.”
