Continuous Earthquakes Scare People in Izmir

Seferihisar Mayor Hamit Nisanci reported that residents were continuing to remain outside of their homes, awaiting a statement from local officials. Nisanci complained that an official at the Kandilli Observatory gave a confused explanation to one of the town’s citizens. Nisanci added, "This is not an illness of influenza to be warned as if it would be recovered. [We need some explanations]. People cannot enter their houses. After the aftershocks nobody enters the houses."

Mayor Nisanci announced that, following the series of aftershocks, he would require a new estimation of the number of damaged homes. The original number had been estimated to have been 300-350. Additionally, the number of damaged homes having been declared ‘inhabitable’ had been estimated as 400-450.
