Cleaning and Maintaining Your Marble Tiles
It is a strong material but very sensitive to common kitchen items like cleaning chemicals, juices containing citric acid and oily liquids. These fluids can ruin the beauty of marble or make it look cloudy. Here are some of the things that you can do in cleaning and caring you’re your marble countertops.
When cleaning your kitchen countertops, it is important to have must-have cleaning accessories in caring for your marble tiles. You need specialized stone soap, soft bristle brush, soft washcloth or sponge, bucket, warm water and stone sealer or protector.
Before you start cleaning your marble tiles with specialized products, first thing that you need to do is to use soft bristle brush in order to loosen the surface dirt, you have to wipe away all the dirt with your soft washcloth or sponge. When the surface dirt is gone, those specialized cleaning agents will have much more success.
You have to make sure that you are using only those cleaning products that are specially made to clean marble tiles. Most of the household cleaning products that are kept under your sink include acids which will leave stains behind. The best marble cleaning products are phosphate free solutions or even liquid dishwashing soap. The best way to use any cleaning product on your tiles is to rinse off the soap instantly with warm water to keep it from drying out the marble.
Once marble tiles have stain, you only have two options: live with the stain or live with etched marble tile where the stain used to be. Many cleaners that remove stains from your marble countertop do so by removing the stain but damaging the surface finish. For food and oil stains, it is better to spread dry cornstarch over the stain and let it stay for a 24 hours. The cornstarch will absorb the oil stain on the marble countertop and will hopefully prevent you from having to use the harsher, damaging, cleaners. If there are rust stains, it can really make your marble tile countertops dull.
Rust can be removed by using specialized rust-removal products that only work by etching away polished surfaces. If the stain is just too horrible to live with, the tile can be sent out and re-polished. You will receive your countertop back with beautiful shine again, but it will also be slightly thinner. Once you are done with the cleaning process on the surface of your countertop, you need to seal it to keep oils and dirt from causing damage again for your tiles. It is not advisable to use wax in sealing your tiles because it can cause your tiles to yellow. The best way to do this is to use stone sealer designed specifically for protecting marble tiles and helping it to resist the oils and dirt you just have to spend so much of your time and energy removing.
