Christian Democrats Not Against Turkey’s EU membership

Brok commented on statements made by Giscard D’Estaing, head of the European Council, who advocated the idea that Turkey was not a part of Europe. Brok stated that it was pointless to emphasize cultural differences. Brok, claiming that cultural differences would disappear when Turkey fulfilled the Copenhagen Criteria, said, "As a party, we are not against the membership of Turkey. However, we insist that it fit the Copenhagen Criteria." Brok pointed out that, aside from the criteria requirement, the party had no other demands.
