China’s Dongfang to build wind turbine factory in Turkey

Dongfang Electric Corporation, one of China’s leading wind power technology companies, is preparing to invest nearly $250 million in a turbine factory in Turkey.

Turkish energy and natural resources minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced the news in a post on social media platform X.

Dongfang intends to build a wind turbine production facility with an annual capacity of 2,000 megawatts (MW), he said.

Ankara last October unveiled a medium-term energy programme that called for investments of $80 billion to quadruple renewables output to 120,000MW by 2035.

As of August, Turkey had 4,400 turbines in operation, a number set to double in the next decade, according to the Turkish Wind Energy Association.

Turkey could deploy at least 7.5 gigawatts of wind generation capacity in its offshore waters, and domestic technology production is well placed to tap into the regional renewables market, according to the World Bank.
