China leads, Türkiye climbs: 500 most valuable banks of 2025 announced – Türkiye Today

The world’s 500 most valuable bank brands have been announced, with Chinese banks securing the top four positions. The annual “Banking 500 – World’s Most Valuable Bank Brands 2025” report by international brand valuation consultancy Brand Finance highlights the dominance of Chinese financial institutions in the global market.

ICBC leads the list with a brand value of $79.1 billion, followed by China Construction Bank at $78.4 billion. Agricultural Bank of China ranks third with $70.2 billion, while Bank of China secures fourth place with $63.8 billion.

Among non-Chinese banks, Bank of America ranks fifth with $45 billion, Chase follows closely in sixth with $44.2 billion, while Wells Fargo ($36 billion), Citi ($35.7 billion), JP Morgan ($32.4 billion), and China Merchants Bank ($28.3 billion) round out the top ten.

Six Turkish banks among the Top 500

Türkiye has made a strong impression in the rankings, with six of its banks securing spots among the world’s 500 most valuable financial institutions. Several Turkish banks saw a significant rise compared to the previous year.

IsBank climbed from 223rd to 196th place, boasting a brand value of $1.2 billion. Ziraat Bank ranks 230th with a value of $875 million, while Garanti BBVA follows at 256th with $721 million. Vakifbank rose to 360th place with $386 million, Akbank secured 376th with $345 million, and Yapi Kredi ranked 403rd with a brand value of $308 million.

Global bank brand values surge by double digits

Brand Finance Türkiye Director Muhterem Ilguner noted that for the first time in four years, global bank brand values experienced double-digit growth. The total value of the top 500 banks increased by 13% in 2024, reaching $1.6 trillion.

Ilguner highlighted the impact of high interest rates on bank brand values and emphasized that future growth would depend on factors such as digital innovation, branding strategies, and regulatory compliance. He also pointed out that UK-based fintech company Revolut recorded a staggering 795% increase, making it the fastest-growing financial brand worldwide.
