Cheney Urges His Daughter Not to Be ‘Human Shield’

United Press International today quoted a Cheney aide as saying, "Neither daughter even has plans to travel to that region, let alone Iraq."
A spokesman for the U.S. Embassy said Cheney was not on his way to Jordan, UPI reported.
"The embassy has no information that the U.S. vice president will arrive in Jordan Tuesday [sic] to convince one of his daughters not to travel to Iraq to join human shields opposed to war," UPI quoted the spokesman as saying.
Most of the pompous would-be "human shields" have already run home crying to their cushy gas-guzzling lives in Europe and North America. But some sons of Western officials have already volunteered as "human shields" in Iraq, including the son of Canadian Foreign Minister Bill Graham, the Web site Al Bawaba reported today.
Although the London newspaper did not name Cheney’s daughter, it said she was believed to be Mary Cheney, 34. His other daughter, Elizabeth, 36, is married with three children in Washington, where she is deputy assistant secretary for Near-East affairs at the State Department.
Mary Cheney "has not kept her homosexuality a secret – either to her friends or to her employer, Coors Brewing Co., where she was the gay and lesbian corporate relations manager," Al Bawaba said.
During her father’s vice presidential campaign in 2000, Miss Cheney told Time magazine: "I love my father. I don’t want to be a distraction."
Note to would-be "human shields": Flesh and bone will not stop cruise missiles and the Mother of All Bombs.
