Bush increases pressure over sides in Cyprus
WASHINGTON (NTV) – Reportedly, US President George W. Bush and Secretary of State Colin Powell monitor the Cyprus talks which continue on the island and both political figures increase the pressure over the both Turkish and Greek sides not to miss historical chance for a solution.
Diplomatic sources in US said today that Bush, his National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice and Powell had been monitoring the developments about the Cyprus negotiation process and the common view was that it was the most suitable time for a solution, if the sides would keep their promises the issue would be resolved by May 1.
The same sources stated that during Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to the US the basic issue was Cyprus.
The US administration sources stressed that Prime Minister Erdogan’s visit healed the relations completely between Turkey and the US. The sources said that Turkey was important for both US and the European Union (EU) and there was need for a solution of the Cyprus issue for Turkey’s EU bid.
