Bush Inauguration and Iranian Crisis

In his first term, the 58-year-old US President marked the world agenda with his response to the September 11 attacks and operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, now he starts the second term against the backdrop of a possible Iranian crisis. In a statement made on January 18, Bush attracted attention once again by saying to war veterans, "much more will be asked of you in the months and years ahead." In the same speech, he added that as long as Iran continues to act mysteriously about its nuclear program, military operations in this country will be one of the options on the table. It was expected that the US President will refrain from unilateral action and give importance to international cooperation to fix the crack he caused with the European Union over the Iraq war. However, Bush’s last statements on Iran have triggered a new crack between the two sides of the Atlantic.
