British Forces make donation to Turkish Red Crescent

This money is the proceeds from the Charities Fund raised by the British Forces, which accumulated during its deployment at Incirlik as part of the British contingent of Operation Northern Watch.

Operation Northern Watch ran from January 1997 to March 2003. It replaced Operation Provide Comfort, which started in 1991, following the Gulf War. The UK’s role was to monitor Iraq compliance with the UNSCRs on humanitarian effort and the no-fly zone over Northern Iraq.

Group Captain Jenkins said, "I am delighted to be able to make this donation. During our 12 years in Turkey, British Forces at Incirlik have been made to feel very welcome. This donation to the Red Crescent is our way of showing our gratitude. We hope it will assist in the future humanitarian effort in Turkey and northern Iraq over which the operation was conducted."
