Border Crisis in Turkish Republic of N. Cyprus

Yolat told the deputy that the Immigrants Office informed him that, he could cross from the border after sending the copy of his ID card to TRNC authorities. After this development, Talat gave an appointment to Purgurides.

However the TRNC police at the Ledra Palace border did not allow the Greek Cypriot deputy to cross the border.

Meanwhile a reader of Hurriyet said in his letter that the Britons who demanded a park to be built in Fethiye only for British children, were turned down by the mayor of the Mediterranean city. The reader says “The situation is even more serious in TRNC. British citizens are buying every place in northern Cyprus. There are rumors that Greek Cypriots are behind these initiatives.”

In a letter to UN Secretary General Annan, TRNC Prime Minister Talat called on the Secretary General to encourage the European Union to keep its promise to end the isolation of Turkish Cypriots. “Otherwise” Talat said, “I can not keep the hopes of my people alive.”
