Bombing at Australian Embassy: 11 Dead

Indonesian President Megawati Sukornoputri interrupted his visit to Brunei and said that the terrorists would be arrested as soon as possible. Australian Prime Minister John Howard also declared that the event would not deter Australia’s struggle against terrorism.

A local Islamic group with ties to Al Qaeda, Malaysian Azahari, is suspected of executing the attack. The incident resembled the 2003 bombing of a Marriott Hotel where 12 people died. Another attack at a nightclub on the Indonesian island of Bali in 2002 killed 202 people.
