Biden says US unemployment benefits reached historic lows

ANKARA

US President Joe Biden said unemployment benefits have reached historic lows, according to a White House statement on Thursday.

“Since I took office, the number of Americans relying on unemployment benefits is now down 95%, and our economy has added 8.3 million jobs,” he said.

“And, as we make the transition from an historic jobs recovery to steady, stable economic growth, companies are investing in manufacturing in America — strengthening supply chains, lowering costs for working families, and securing our energy independence,” he added.

The president said the American economy created more manufacturing jobs on average per month during his first year in office than his predecessors in the last 50 years.

Biden’s remarks came after the number of Americans filing first-time unemployment claims fell to 200,000, according to US Labor Department.

The insured unemployment rate was around 1.3 million, or 0.9%, for the week ending May 21 — the lowest since December 1969, it added.
