Berlusconi Influence On EU’s Final Communique

Italy overcame the plan of EU Commissioner Gunther Verheugen and Greece, that wanted Turkey to be sharply warned regarding the Cyprus issue. Italy, together with Germany and Britain, made the final communique of the Brussels Summit, which will start today, include the most positive expressions of recent years regarding Turkey.

Ankara appreciated this attitude of Italy. Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, who went to Brussels on Thursday, will first thank to Italy, for her efforts before starting their contacts.
