Belgium to Hold Referendum on EU Constitution

The Federal Parliament is to clarify the issue in early 2005. Reporting that the referendum might be held in April, officials declared that the results of this referendum would not have any binding power but all the political parties would have to consider the views of the public when it is time to vote for EU Constitution in late 2005.

Various public opinion polls in Belgium indicate that at least 51 percent of the people support an EU Constitution.
