Belgium PM: Turkey is on the right way

BELGIUM (AA) – Belgium Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt said today that if Turkey could start membership negotiations with the European Union, the economic issues would be the first important subject.

He stated that Turkey had to take role in common EU defense policy and Ankara was on the right way by preparing reform package on its EU route.

Commenting on Turkey-EU relations he stated that important changes were occured and Turkey’s continuing to reforms was very important for they would decide whether it would start negotiations with the EU at the end of 2004.

He added that first, Turkey had to fillful Copenhagen criteria and with new government many positive changes happened for EU attempts.
