Kelly had denied being the source, saying that he did not have an interview with the correspondent who had done the story. Failing to a present satisfactory explanation to the public concerning Kelly’s statements, the BBC is now fighting to protect its image and reliability.
The English press charged that the BBC’s statement about Dr. David Kelly’s tragic death, vindicated Blair. Using the headline ‘BBC in Crisis as Blair’s Mood Swings’, The Times published photos of Blair smiling, while in Washington, a troubled shot of him in the Far East, and a recent one in which he is smiling, following the BBC’s statement.

The paper also stated that the reporter Andrew Gilligan had defended himself by saying, "I used what Dr. Kelly had said without distorting [any information]."
