Baghdad to US: Pay Attention to Us, Not to Oil
The protestors said the U.S. troops had not tried to help prevent looting, nor had they resumed communications, electrical and services. A resident said: "They have operated some oil fields; however, they aren’t operating water or electrical systems because they came for oil." Another Iraqi displayed his feelings by saying: "Where is the electricity? Where is the water? Why is there disorder? It would be much better if Saddam were in power." A professor reportedly observed that certain U.S. soldiers had encouraged people to loot. The protestors staged a demonstration that praised Iraq, criticized Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and warned against any attempt to establish a foreign or military government.
