Baghdad: Powell hails progress in rebuilding Iraq

After a meeting with interim Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Powell said, "This will lead to a democratic Iraq that we will be very pleased to pass on responsibilities to in due course. Everybody would like to accelerate this. Everybody wants this to go fast. … We’re not hanging on for the sake of hanging on. The worst thing that can happen is for us to push this process too quickly, before the capacity for governance is there and the basis for legitimacy is there, and see it fail."
"The major new threat are the terrorists who are trying to infiltrate the country for the purpose of destroying this very hopeful process. We will not allow that to happen," he added.
