Bad News for China as Turkey strengthens its military power in Pacific region, Erdoğan now plans to…, Xi Jinping to…
Turkey has strong military ties with China’s “rivals” such as Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines. These are the countries with which China frequently faces conflicts in the South China Sea.

Ankara: Turkey has been relentlessly working to strengthen its military power. Ankara is currently constructing an aircraft carrier that weighs 60,000 tons. According to the reports, the aircraft carrier is as large as the TCG Anadolu warship and has been named Thrace for now. This means Turkey will now have a massive aircraft carrier, significantly boosting its naval strength. The rapid growth of Turkey’s military strength is a major concern for Xi Jinping’s China. It is believed that with this aircraft carrier, Turkey will showcase its naval strength. This carrier could play a crucial role in the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea, and the Indo-Pacific region.
Why is China worried about Turkey’s military expansion?
It is important to note that Turkey is continuously trying to expand its military and diplomatic influence in the Pacific region, which China has its eyes on. Additionally, Turkey has strong military ties with China’s “rivals” such as Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines. These are the countries with which China frequently faces conflicts in the South China Sea.
Moreover, Turkey’s naval military exercises with these nations have always been a source of concern for China. In such a scenario, Turkey’s aircraft carrier could become a major challenge for China.
Where do China and Turkey come face to face?
The Xi Jinping establishment is working round-the-clock to establish its dominance in Africa and the Indian Ocean regions. China has deep strategic, economic, and military interests in both these areas. However, Turkey has made a strong presence in regions like the Horn of Africa (Somalia, Djibouti) and Libya, which often concerns China.
Turkey’s presence in these regions makes it a significant geopolitical player. However, Turkey’s weakness lies in its proximity to Greece. The Greek Air Force has the capability to easily target Turkey. As a result, Turkey appears weak in the Aegean Sea and cannot effectively use its aircraft carrier there.
However, Turkey can use its aircraft carriers for drone strikes and missile attacks in the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea. China may be troubled by Turkey’s growing naval strength in these regions. Moreover, China knows that, in the end, Turkey will ultimately align itself with the United States. Turkish defense experts even claim that its aircraft carrier is creating panic in China.
