Azerbaijan Envisions European Natural Gas Sales Via Turkey
Noting that a natural gas deposit of 1 quadrillion cubic meters had been discovered near the Shah Sea in Azerbaijan, Kerimov said the pipeline for transporting that gas would not end in Erzurum but rather would extend to the rest of Europe. A total of 6.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas will be carried annually to Turkey via the BTE pipeline.
Kerimov said a new energy corridor traversing Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and Greece would stretch to all of Europe. "In the future, not only oil and gas but also electricity and transport will be present in that corridor. This is not only a financial but also a social project. Our rights will provide great benefits to our people’s assurance of new workplaces, to an improvement in the standard of living and to the deepening and optimization of the relations between our countries. The pipeline starting in Baku and ending in Erzurum is both political and financial. There is this, and there is also that."
