Ayia Napa Out of Control
The latest trend in the resort seems to be stabbings, some which have caused major bodily and psychological harm to the victims. Knifes and daggers are freely available at most of the resorts Kiosks and shops and retail for us little as U$2.
A few weeks ago upcoming music star Dizzie Rascal was stabbed five times whilst working in the resort, the police have failed to catch those responsible. Since the start of July there have been three major incidents involving knifes, however the local police department have made no arrests and still seem to be struggling with the massive increase in crime.
According to recent reports the town is like the wild west, with little sign of policing on the streets.
According to the British daily newspaper the Guardian a DJ working in the resort, who refused to be named because “lives are at stake”, said: “Its all street politics – a London thing.
“I am sure it won’t stop here. There are other crews involved too, but they are less well-known.”
The violence along with the rising prices has made Greek-Cypriot controlled Cyprus an unattractive destination for holiday makers, who are now choosing destinations such as Spain, Turkey and France.
