Austria backs Turkey’s EU bid

Austria’s Ambassador to Ankara, Marius Calligaris said on Thursday that he was optimistic that Turkey would be given a date to start accession negotiations when the EU holds its next heads of state summit.
“Turkey might get a firm date to start entry negotiations to the European Union at the Summit in December,” Calligaris said while on a visit to the central Turkish city of Aksaray.
Turkey had made very significant progress and implemented reforms in its efforts to qualify for membership of the EU, the Austrian Ambassador said.
