Attacks on Shiite Rituals in Iraq Leave 60 Dead

Most of the attacks occurred in the Azamiyah and Kazimiyah neighborhoods in the north of Baghdad. A suicide attack on a commuter bus in Kazimiyah killed 17 while another near a mosque also in Kazimiyah killed seven, three of whom were police officers returning from the ritual. A howitzer attack in the south of Baghdad killed 25 and a suicide bomber on a motorcycle killed seven near a Sunni mosque in the middle of a mourning crowd in the western part of the city. It is thought that the suicide attacker assumed that the Sunni crowd was Shiite. The death toll in yesterday’s attacks exceeded 60.
