Anti-Monarchy Demonstration in Nepal
The crowd marched towards the zone occupied by the offices of the prime ministry, as well as some ministry and government buildings and shouted out slogans: "No Autocracy. We want Democracy."
Police forces arrested more than 40 demonstrators.
Up to 11,000 people lost their lives during skirmishes between Mao Zadong supporters fighting for a communist state and the pro-government soldiers. The King of Nepal, Gyanendra "in order to overcome the communist rioting against the monarchy and to kill off corruption among politicians" announced a state of emergency and annulled the government on February 1.
The international community has been pressuring the monarch in order to encourage democracy once again in the country.
