Annan’s Cyprus Report Critical of Greeks

Diplomatic sources state that countries like Russia that abstained from voting for the Annan Plan before the referenda in Cyprus may abstain again when the report is presented to the Council for approval.

The Greek Cypriot press has mostly been reporting on Papadopulos’ goal to restore his damaged relationship with Annan and the issues that are likely to be discussed in the meeting with Annan tomorrow. The newspaper Alithia carried the headline ‘Annan to untie Tassos’ and wrote that the Secretary-General would ask Papadopoulos ‘to return to the Annan Plan and accept the conditions’. The headline in the Filelefteros paper read ‘Trip to Melt the Ice’ followed by reports that Papadopoulos would ask for support to melt the ice formed by the Greeks rejection of the plan and for the continuance of solution efforts.
