Ankara wants north province of Baghdad for its troops

Following declaration of war was over, Turkey wanted to launch its troops in Felluce, Saddam Hussein’s homeland Tikrit and Bakuba where attacks increased

After the proposal regarding to sent Turkish soldiers to Iraq passed from Parliament, Office of General Staff and US Army started technical negotiation process.

Meanwhile, sources said that US Ambassador to Turkey Eric Edelman would go to the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday and exchange views on the negotiation process expected to be launched between the two countries.

6-10,000 TROOPS TO GO

Number of Turkish troops will change according to where forces will be deployed, but around 6-10,000 troops will be deployed in Iraq.

GOVERNING COUNCIL’S STATEMENT

Meanwhile, Iraqi Governing Council’s statements that opposing Turkish forces in Iraq make Ankara uneasy and it demands from US to stop such as expressions.

Two separate delegations from U.S. House of Representatives and Senate will come to Ankara to hold meetings as part of their tour to the region.

Sources said on Wednesday that delegation from U.S. House of Representatives headed by Jim Saxton would come to Ankara today.

The delegation will hold meetings today and tomorrow and is expected to meet with Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Ugur Ziyal.

U.S. Senate delegation headed by Senator Mitch McConnell is expected to meet with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on October 10.

Diplomatic sources said that visit of the two delegations who were on a tour covering Afghanistan and Iraq did not have a direct connection with the process of dispatch of soldiers to Iraq.

Two delegations, one from Poland and the other from Iraq, will come to Turkey after the parliament adopted motion on dispatch of soldiers to Iraq.

Sources said on Wednesday that Polish delegation chaired by Special Envoy Slawomir Cytryeki for reconstruction of Iraq was expected to hold meetings in Ankara between October 9 and 10.

The sources noted that the Polish delegation would also include officials from the Polish Treasury and Foreign Ministry.

The Polish delegation will meet with officials of the Foreign Ministry and Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB).

The Iraqi delegation headed by Marek Belka, head of the Council for International Cooperation in Iraq, will be in Turkey between October 10 and 12.

The delegation will be comprised of officials of Iraqi Central Bank and Iraqi Ministry of Planning.

The delegation will hold meetings as preparation for a conference to be held in Spain on contributions to Iraq’s reconstruction.

Iraqi delegation will meet with officials of the Foreign Ministry, Energy and Natural Resources Ministry and Central Bank.
