Ankara waits for PKK pledge from the US
United States this time upgraded level of representation and sends a delegation led by J. Cofer Black, Coordinator for Counterterrorism for the Department of State. The delegation is expected to be in Ankara on Wednesday.
Foreign Ministry Deputy Undersecretary Nabi Sensoy will again head the Turkish delegation. Ankara is expected to convey that it waits for concrete steps from Washington for elimination of terrorist organization.
Diplomatic sources said Ankara welcomed the positive messages coming from Washington for determination of elimination of terrorist organization.
The sources said they expected United States to present a plan from now on instead of promises and statements.
Ankara is expected to give the message that north of Iraq should not be a base for terrorists, and that it was ready to work together to this end.
Ankara will also call for the United States to continue to fight against terrorist organization whatever its decision would be in process of dispatch of soldiers to Iraq.
In the first round of the talks that started in Ankara on September 12, the sides had agreed on a "joint action plan".
Sources said there was not a concrete plan yet, but that an agreement was reached in principle.
During the first round of talks, Ankara’s sensitivity on terrorism, its expectations within Reassociation Law, and possibility of infiltration of terrorists to neighboring countries had been discussed. The two countries also reiterated their determination in fight against terrorism.
