Ankara Summons U.N. Iraq Representative
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Namik Tan said Wednesday that the Ministry maintains close ties with U.N. Iraq Representative Lahdar Ibrahimi and his team. Tan disclosed that the Ministry invited Ibrahimi to Turkey. "We are expecting a more active U.N. approach," Tan added.
The spokesman also expressed that the latest developments in Iraqi are worrisome. He stressed that the channels of communication are open all the time and called for calm from all parties.
‘It should be determined by late May’
Meanwhile, Ibrahimi, in a U.N. Security Council address, said that Iraqis should determine the new Iraqi interim government members by late May.
"Ideally Iraqis will determine the government members because they know who is honest and good and who is not. We think it is possible to decide on the members by the end of May. Those selected will have one month to prepare for undertaking the responsibility to govern the country," said Ibrahimi.
