Ankara Rejects Papadopoulos, Tells EU to Hurry Up

While the topic was not on the EU Foreign Ministry’s agenda yesterday, the Turkish Foreign Minister, Abdullah Gul, asked them to keep their promises as proof of credibility.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said that the regulations project would be discussed at the following meeting, on September 13-14, and warned, "It is time to end the sanctions on the Turkish side. They struggled for a solution with referendums in Cyprus. The sanctions that the Turks do not deserve are to be lifted."

Gul, in an evaluation on Papadopoulos ‘s explanation that he negotiated the revisions of Annan’s plan with EU authorities, said that EU authorities did not ask for these revisions and that the Union would not deal with this matter anymore. The TRNC Foreign Ministry, in yesterday’s statement, declared that any attempt to change Annan’s Plan, not only by Papadopoulos, but by a third party, would be refused.
