Ankara preparing a B-Plan for Cyprus
However, Ankara is to wait to see the report to be submitted by United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan on the results of the referendum should the Greek Cypriot vote against reunifying the two states on the island.
Ankara’s first steps in its alternative plan would be to apply to the United Nations and the European Union to ask what status would be given to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Ankara is to kick off an international campaign calling for the TRNC not to be punished further and stressing that the trade embargo and the sanctions imposed against the Turkish Cypriot state had no legitimacy.
In later the stages of the campaign, Ankara would ask that the TRNC be included in international sports competitions, have access to the international aviation network and being granted commercial co-operation opportunities.
