Ankara becomes bus production center of MAN

ISTANBUL (AA) – Production facilities of the MAN Truck and Bus Corp in Ankara have become MAN’s bus production center in Europe as a result of capacity increase investments.

Holding a press conference on Friday together with Executive Board members Tunc Koman and Norbert Mast, MAN Turkey Corp Executive Board Chairman Dirk Wulfing reminded that they exported buses and spare parts of 147.7 million euros to 35 countries in 2003.

He said that they were planning to increase their exports up to 200 million euros by the end of 2004.

Pointing out that production of trucks would be increased from 800 to one thousand this year, Wulfing told reporters that they were planning to produce 1 thousand 600 buses in 2004.

"We exported 929 buses last year. We target to export 1 thousand 350 buses this year. Meanwhile, number of our workers has increased to 2 thousand 500 in the last 7-8 years," he said.

Highlighting importance of research and development, Wulfing said that their annual investments in research and development activities was 3.5 million euros.

"We aim to increase our production capacity, which is currently 1 thousand 200, to 1 thousand 600 in 2004 and to 2 thousand in 2005. Meanwhile, we plan to make an investment of 8 million euros this year. The total amount of our investments between 1995 and 2004 will reach 80 million euros," he added.
