America’s Bloodiest Day in Iraq: 19 Soldiers Dead
24 people died and about 60 others were injured in attacks on a US base in Mosul. A US officer said 19 US soldiers lost their lives at the Forward Operation Base in Marez in addition to five unidentified soldiers. The Ansar al- Sunna organization claimed responsibility for the attack. Although US authorities say the attack was made on a food tent using a rocket or mortar launch, the organization claims that the militants committed suicide attacks on the base.
British Prime Minister Tony Blair is making a surprise visit in Bagdad (Baghdad) where he expressed his support for the upcoming Iraqi elections. Blair also met with the Provisional Iraqi Prime Minister, Iyad Allawi, and the members of the Iraqi election committee. Blair called them heroes for what they are doing.
