A ‘Turkish Town’ to be established in Brussels

A Turkish Town will be established in the north of Brussels, Belgium State Minister Pascal Smet said.

The region, where there is 5,000 Turkish population in Schaerbeek and 15,000 population in Saint Joost-ten-Node, will be turned into a Turkish town, according to daily Sabah news.

Shaping the project with his Turkish advisor Gulcan Koksal, Smet began his mission nearly a month ago. Stating that he targets to give a different color to Brussels, Smet said that he wants to know the Turkish society better. “This is a strategic choice. I think that the integration would be realized by education and providing job possibilities. We, as a social democrat party, follow a dynamic policy open to sections of the society,” Smet said.

Another important feature of Schaerbeek and Saint-Joost-ten-Node towns is that the deputy mayors of both towns are Turkish.
