A new adultery crisis?
Doctors are objecting to this article and they are right to do so. Such an article purports that all doctors have the potential to harass their patients. This article appears to be protecting the honor of all women from potential rape.
It doesn’t matter if the parliamentary commission’s members argue that such precautions are in place is some European Union countries. If this article is not explained clearly, it has the potential to create trouble.
There is one thing we should not forget. This is Turkey and people will be looking for a hidden agenda in everything we do. The commentators here and overseas will study this very closely.
We should also think about how the European Parliament forced the resignation of an EU Commissioner for being indifferent to women’s rights.
We should realize that we can no longer decide on such issues alone. We can’t argue that we should be treated differently.
An indecent proposal in Cyprus!
Life appears to have returned to normal in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC).
Just as in the past, people approach politicians with indecent proposals and the politicians in question tell journalists what happened. Those who are accused of the crime naturally deny it, and even counterclaim, "He was the one who approached us with that indecent proposal."
Domestic politics in the KKTC is really a lot of fun.
Despite being such a small place, and despite everybody knowing each other, they still achieve the impossible and never agree on anything. Small games and tricks are always taking place.
There will be general elections in the KKTC soon.
We all hope that the people at last will show who they really want and provide one group a clear majority. This division is costing the KKTC a lot. The near future is very important. Steps to end the international isolation need to be taken, while progress towards a permanent solution should be discussed.
Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat and Foreign Minister Serdar Denktas had become a good duo, but outside intervention caused their government to topple. The nation itself needs to fix this by itself.
Did anyone take heed of what happened in the US?
If you didn’t listen to the Democratic candidate John Kerry’s speech on Wednesday, you missed out on a very important event.
Just think about it. This person missed the opportunity to lead the only superpower in the world by a comparatively small margin. He had the opportunity to increase tension. He could have criticized his opponent. He could have gone even further and initiated a campaign against George W. Bush.
Kerry did none of these things. Despite losing the election, he did just the opposite.
He said the United States needed unity instead of division. He said after the results were announced, arguments and disagreements had ended, adding that he would work with Bush to advance the country’s interests. From start to finish, he presented himself as a mature and constructive individual.
Kerry showed how mature U.S. democracy is.
He showed why the United States is so great.
In his speech, President Bush was not patronizing towards Kerry, nor did he over-celebrate his victory. He praised the attributes of the Democratic Party nominee and thanked him.
I wonder if our politicians took heed of his magnanimity.
I wonder if they realize how greatly such maturity benefits a nation, and how forgetting what happened during a campaign and reaching a consensus makes a country great.
If they watched the football match between Lyon and Fenerbahce instead, it was definitely a wasted opportunity for them.
