Existence of E.U.’s ‘Written Guarantee’ an Enigma

Denktas also seemed to confirm that he had been given a guarantee when he said that the E.U. guarantee had been thoroughly reviewed before the start of negotiations. It is puzzling then that Denktas would later state Verheugen had not given any such guarantee. Denktas hinted that Verheugen is not sure whether or not the agreement would be upheld in European courts.

Embargo not on E.U.’s Agenda

Meanwhile, E.U. officials said that lifting the embargo on the TRNC is not one of their concerns at the moment. In fact the E.U. maintains that it has never placed an embargo on TRNC, insisting that any embargo perceived by the TRNC is a result of the fact that the E.U. and the rest of the world, except Turkey, recognize only the Greek side. The primary concern of the E.U. at present is seeing that final solution is reached as soon as possible.
