Turkey to have an active presence in D- 8 summit

Klic said he would explain the expectations of his country to the participants at the D- 8Summit in Tehran. He said he would fly to Tehran if the weather conditions are appropriate for his flight. He went on to say that Turkish Deputy premier Abdolatif Shener would take part in the ministerial level segment of the summit and President Ahmet Necet Cezer would take part in the summit of heads of states.

He commented on the D- 8Summit and said the D- 8Summit is an international event that tremendously overshadows the regional and global developments. He said Turkey had greatly welcomed the holding of the D- 8summit in Tehran because Iran has greatly contributed to the growth and promotion of the D 8group.

He then commented on the relations between Iran and Turkey and expressed pleasure with the improvement in the relations between the two countries. The Turkish official stressed the important role played by Iran and Turkey in the regional developments while giving comments on the developments in Iraq.

He said the developments in Iraq have overshadowed the situation in its neighboring states and supported Tehran`s attitude on the transfer of power to Iraqis under the supervision of the United Nations.

He acknowledged that every development in Iraq will influence Iran and Turkey’s national security. The Turkish official expressed the hope that the good understanding between the two states would result in the expansion of ties in all areas.

He said Turkey is well interested in developing its relations with the Islamic Republic in all domains. D-8, an economic forum, groups Iran, Turkey, Malaysia, Egypt, Pakistan, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Nigeria and its secretariat is located in Turkey.

The Tehran summit is due to be held with the participation of heads of state and governments of Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Egypt and Nigeria.

The Council of Ministers would meet to set the summit`s agenda and leading businessmen from the member countries would also attend a forum being held on the eve of the summit.

D- 8was founded in 1998 by the initiative of former Turkish Prime Minister Necmeddin Erbakan to boost economic cooperation among Muslim states with more than 600 million population.
