Iran Expects Investment From Turkey

Iran also plans to enlarge its air fleet with 38 planes. Eight planes will be purchased and 30 more will be bought using credit from the Central Bank. Yildirim, however, said: " But 6, A-310 airbuses in the THY (Turkish Airlines) fleets have some problems with maintenance and replacement parts because the U.S. did not provide replacement parts due to an embargo. Although THY tried to repair them, the U.S. warned Turkey, ‘you cannot give Iranian planes replacement parts.’

"We informed the Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan before his visit to the U.S.A. and asked whether the U.S. can be a bit flexible about the issue. Because they are our planes, we handed them over Iran, but we cannot use them because we don’t have replacement parts. So, Iran expects specific support from us. They regard this gesture as a way to improve relations."

Iran is currently running a five million houses in five years project, which Yildirim said presented lots of opportunities for Turkish contractors.
