Turkey and TRNC in full consensus of opinion

The tete-a-tete meeting which took place between TRNC President Denktas and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul Governor’s Office lasted one hour.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Erdogan said that they exchanged views with Denktas about Cyprus question. Erdogan said he gave information to Denktas about the studies carried out in Turkey regarding Cyprus negotiation process.

"I am pleased to listen to the views of Mr. Denktas," told Erdogan to reporters, adding "our common target is to reach a lasting and fair peace on the island within the scope of good will mission of U.N. Secretary General. We will be in close consultation with Mr. Denktas and TRNC government. We also evaluated political developments and the recent stage in formation of government in TRNC. As a result we are in full consensus of opinion to continue carrying out within close solidarity and cooperation the efforts for reaching lasting peace and solution in Cyprus."

Denktas said in his part that Cyprus issue was a common national cause and the target was ensuring permanent peace, consensus, prosperity and security of people and not repeating the past. He added that they took up all of those issues during their meeting. He said that they did not have different opinions with Erdogan and this pleased him very much.

Stressing that this good cooperation would continue and this would be for the benefit of national cause, Denktas thanked Erdogan.
