Denktas criticises Turkish Premier
The President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Rauf Denktas has criticised recent statements by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan advising Denktas to change his policy advisors.
“The Turkish government should tell me who they would like as a negotiator I will appoint the person. Then let us see how far it goes,” Denktas said Friday.
He added that he had no complaints from his advisor so far, saying that this sort of discussion should not have taken place via the media.
Talking to private television station NTV, an advisor to Denktas, former Turkish Foreign Minister Mümtaz Soysal, said that he did not think that Erdogan had referred to him in his comments. As such, Soysal saw no reason for him to stand down from position as a voluntary advisor to President Denktas. He added that it could have been other advisors that the Turkish Prime Minister was referring to.
