We have never favored unsettlement in Cyprus

Chief of Joint Staff Hilmi Ozkok said that the Suleymaniye incident (On July 3 when American soldiers put sacks on the heads of Turkish soldiers and detained them) hurt the Turkish Armed Forces but the army acted with prudence in that case. Ozkok said, “This made us have a situational superiority. Because if we had acted in another way and an armed conflict erupted, then they would have said, “Turks were doing something covert there and we caught them red handed.”
We tried to control the incident and our American counterparts declared in every occasion that they regretted it. I have been telling them and their senators coming to Turkey that we should take necessary measures today that will shape our future relations.”
