Denktas Cancels E.U. Visit after Row Over Official Title
Papadopulos, who was going to make a speech in Brussels before Denktas on October 16, announced that he had cancelled his appointment.
Later E.U. officials pointed out that they had made a mistake by addressing Denktas as the president of the TRNC and sent another more e-mail to its members and the media.
In the second e-mail, they addressed Denktas as the leader of the Cypriot Turk community and announced that they made a mistake in the first invitation.
The TRNC representative in Brussels, Hilmi Akil, reported that: “We are very sorry for the cancellation of this meeting because of Cypriot Greek pressure. It is confirmed that Denktas has cancelled his other meetings in Brussels due to the circumstances against him.”
