Turkey reacts harsly to OIC report on Cyprus issue

Cengizer stated that contrary the tradition, OIC Secretariat in Saudi Arabia didn’t inform Turkey and didn’t ask its opinion, but the report underlined that Greece and UN’s iniatitives were welcomed by the organization.

INTIMATE RELATIONS WITH GREEK CYPRIOTS

Cengizer pointed out that Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos’ only first name was used in the report and they wouldn’t have known that Secretariat was calling him with his first name.

He added that the only country which would be informed about the report was only Turkey, but Ankara would convey its uneasiness to Secretariat in a written text.

CLOSE TIES OF EGYPT AND GREEK CYPRUS

Meanwhile, diplomatic sources said that during the meeting Egypt followed a negative approach against Turkey and following meeting, Egyptian diplomats gave information to Greek Cypriot officials at the coridor, so it made bigger the dimension of scandal.

In the report, OIC stated that Cyprus government was Greek Cypriot administration and Tassos Papadopoupol’s winning the election was decribed as a victory.

Diplomatic sources said that they saw Egyptian diplomats chatting with their Greek Cypriot colleagues after the meeting and informing them about the content of the report. According to the sources, this amplified the size of the scandal. Only Pakistani and Azeri diplomats supported Turkey and the other members of the organization remained indifferent.
