Verheugen warns Turkey’s anti-reform powers

Verheugen stated that even in the structure of state there were some people who are against Turkey’s European Union membership and they were trying to head off all developments on the EU route.

Avoiding of any information on Turkey’s membership bid, Verheugen stated that reforms which were passed the Turkish Parliament had to be implemented in the shortest time to cut off those claims of torture.

On the other hand, following Verheugen, European Parliament Deputy President Ingo Friedrich opposed to Turkey’s membership because the other neighbours of Turkey could also ask for EU bid.
