Greek Cypriots try to seize Turkish properties

Denktas stressed that U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan’s plan was the product of that understanding.

Mustafa Hasim Altan, researcher-writer who was charged as the director of TRNC National Archives for long years presented the same day his four-volume book titled "Turkish Cypriot Properties." Altan noted in his book that the territories which belonged to Turks were around 45 percent when the island belonged to Ottomans.

TRNC President Denktas said that "history can’t be changed and the realities can’t be shelved. The main policy of Greek Cypriots is to seize the Turkish territories."

Denktas stated that Greek Cypriots put pressure on Turkish nation to gain control in the Turkish territories and many Turkish villages were evacuated by this way, adding that Annan plan depended on the philosophy of leaving Turks without territory.

Denktas pointed out that Annan plan which envisaged 60,000-80,000 Greek Cypriots to return to the north and the remaining part to file suits would leave Turks without territory. Denktas stressed that the Turkish immovable properties in the South were either demolished or nationalized, adding that "Annan plan which plans to remove Turks from the island, and which forces us to live in a territory which only constitutes 10 percent, denotes to Greek Cypriots’ game. Our people should stand like a wall against it."

TRNC President Denktas said that he was very pleased as the number of books on Cyprus increased significantly.

Officials of Ahmet Yesevi Cultural Foundation which financed publication of the book, said that the book was composed of documents and that it would be translated into English and promoted in the world.

Foundation’s officials said that a study was started about the land where Maras and Larnaka airports were situated, adding that another book titled "nationalization movements in Cyprus" would also be published soon.
