SCHROEDER: “Turkey should become an EU member”

“Turkey is a model for the world, as a country which has successfully synthesized Islamic values and Western democracy,” added the chancellor. “Germany has many reasons to support Turkey’s EU membership, as it would benefit our continent.” Last week in Berlin, Schroeder praised Turkey’s progress in democracy and human rights to visiting Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
