Strengthening Democratic Culture for Basic Education in Turkey – dedicated website available

Within the framework of the EU/CoE Joint Project Strengthening Democratic Culture for Basic Education in Turkey, a website has been developed to further disseminate materials, key concepts and the work done during its 51 months of implementation.

Conceived as a depository of resources to be used by school management, education practitioners as well as policymakers, the website will remain operational after the project’s end, and is available at this link:

The website incorporates the latest tools in terms of accessibility. Among other features, the text can be downloaded and listened to, a magnifying glass is available, and the fonts and colours can be changed on all of its pages.

The project aims to integrate a democratic school culture that corresponds with universal core values as well as fundamental rights and freedoms into basic education in Turkey. Pilot implementation started in September 2021 in 110 pilot schools in 10 provinces and will continue until the end of the school year.

The best practices from the schools will be presented at the project’s final conference in June and will later be published on the website.

All of the materials developed in the context of the project, including the Turkish translation of the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture, a Trainers’ pack, Activity cards, Teachers’ manuals, and storybooks for children, to name but a few, can also be downloaded free of charge.

Co-financed by the European Union and the Council of Europe, the project is implemented in co-operation with the Directorate General of Basic Education of the Turkish Ministry of National Education.
