Turkey: 5 Posts in Northern Iraq

The demands of Turkey included;

* An independent sector to Turkey, in Iraq. Turkish commander over Turkish troops.

* Five forward posts to be set up between Baghdad and Habur.

* A U.S. warning to Kurds.

* Turkish troops will have the right to legitimate defense.

* Helicopters will be full equipped to fight back likely missile attacks from ground to air.

In their first round of technical-military talks, Turkish and U.S. delegations agreed on providing a sector and sector command to Turkey, and progress was reportedly recorded in the method of delivery of the Turkish troops to their mission area.

To provide security during the passage of her troops, Turkey demanded setting up at least five forward security posts between Baghdad and Habur. Decision on the issue is expected to emerge in the following talks. The U.S. mission favorod the proposal but felt the necessity to consult Pentagon before responding.
